about

Softly was a song that had to be cut from the album. It's a shame because I think it's one of the best songs I've written in the past year. I remember writing it on a whim and everything just came to me like magic. At least it got to see the light of day on this EP.

It's weird. I originally wrote the lyrics with more of a story telling approach, not drawing upon any personal experience. Then something happened to me, and this song ended up fitting into my life (see Let Me In for details). Now, Softly is about me wondering if what my ex said was true. Was that person she was with the day we broke up just a friend, or was he something more? I'm not sure I'll ever know, but I'm certain you don't make Tumblr posts about how much you like to make your friend blush without some ulterior motives.

lyrics

Sleep tight
Under street lights
With your head resting
In the space between
His shoulder and neck
You start to lose track
Where he stands

As a friend
As a brother
As a lover

Tell me, does he
Kiss you in ways I never have thought of?
Softly but not gently

Tell me, does he
Kiss you in ways I never have thought of?
Softly but not gently

Does he know
Does he know about me?
Does he know
Does he know about me?

Does he know
Does he know about me?
Does he know
Does he know about me?
